When to file 2290 to pay your Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) is admittedly a bit complex. In general terms, form 2290 is expected to be filed the last day of the month, following the month of your first use. You can e-File 2290 with Allied Truck Tax and get your Schedule 1 in minutes. The filing period for HVUT with form 2290 starts on July 1st of every year and ends the last day in June.

For example, if you get your truck during November, you are expected to pay Heavy Vehicle Use Tax by December 31. The December due date is the same no matter if you got your truck at the beginning of November or towards the end of the month.
